CNN Fear & Greed Index
Working with editors at CNN, my team designed and built a tool that measures what emotion is currently driving the market.
Data is plentiful in the financial industry, but it is often hard to see a clear signal through so much noise. The Fear & Greed Index looks at seven facets of the bond, stock, and options markets to discern an underlying sentiment based on investor behavior.
Working with a CNN editor and a Markit financial analyst, we quickly built a tool which distills thousands of datapoints about market behavior into a simple score along a 100-point scale, indicating whether investors are currently acting upon greedy or fearful impulses. CNN has now had the index on their website for nearly a decade.
